Welcome to Watasumi Ltd., where we transform waste into opportunity. We are a leading innovator in biotechnology, specializing in turning waste into a valuable source of renewable energy.
Our environment needs protection more than ever. We deplete resources to just dump them as waste, in both cases leaving devastating impact on nature.
We are also living in a period of rapid change, where technological developments are revolutionising the way we live, and will apply our knowledge to make an impact on climate change and resource scarcity.
While the contribution of the big players are crucial we believe that contribution of the "small players" should not be underestimated.
At Watasumi, we are dedicated to support small and medium-sized companies, but also individuals, access the kind of waste management options that are currently only available to large companies. We strive to provide the most efficient and cost-effective solutions that are both sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Our Story
Watasumi was founded by David Simpson in 2021 with the support of of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology's R&D Cluster Section and the Tech Pioneers program.
With over 13 years of research activities at OIST, Edinburgh University, Moscow State University, Sonoma State University and KMUTT, David has worked with biological and environmental researchers to help shape the inventions that would become Watasumi's core technology.
In addition, he has gained experience with industries from all over the world, interviewing process managers, conducting lab tests and installing pilot scale projects. The relationships with champions and early adopters helped develop our technology into the sustainable solution it is today.
