We are pleased to announce that J-POWER (Electric Power Development Co., Ltd.), a major player in the energy sector, has decided to invest in Watasumi through the Sustainability Transformation Startup Lab (SX Lab), which it jointly operates with startup studio Spirete Inc.

SX Lab is a program that provides funding and business development support to entrepreneurs and researchers aiming to realize a sustainable society. After passing the initial screening, Watasumi received extensive support from Spirete’s “Startup Support Program,” including assistance in developing the business concept and business plan.

Strategic Synergy with a Leading Utility Company

J-POWER, as an electric utility in Japan, shares Watasumi's vision of infrastructure as the backbone of a sustainable economy. J-POWER is actively engaged in the development of renewable energy, and the 'Watasumi system’, which generates electricity and biogas through organic wastewater treatment while significantly reducing CO₂ emissions, directly contributes to realizing J-POWER’s goal of carbon neutrality.

Their support affirms wastewater as a critical utility—on par with energy—in the next phase of industrial decarbonization and resource efficiency.

Accelerated Growth and Industrial Reach

With backing from J-POWER’s CVC and Spirete SX lab’s deep tech expertise, Watasumi gains not only capital but also access to utility-scale operational know-how, technical networks, and a faster pathway to deployment with industries. These are valuable assets for a resource-limited startup like Watasumi and will serve as a driving force to accelerate its future business development.

This investment marks a strong endorsement of Watasumi’s approach to localized, low-carbon wastewater treatment. It validates our role in enabling clean growth for sectors like food & beverage and this initiative aligns not only with Japan’s national goals of achieving carbon neutrality and strengthening water resilience, but also with Okinawa Prefecture’s New Okinawa 21st Century Vision, specifically the policy of promoting the introduction of clean energy such as renewable energy.

To solve global-scale challenges like these, it is essential to have partners who share the commitment to finding solutions. With support from J-POWER and Spirete, Watasumi will work in collaboration with all those who share its vision and mission, tackling social issues through wastewater treatment from Japan to the world.

Are you having trouble with wastewater treatment in the food and beverage manufacturing industry? For inquiries about the Watasumi system, which can significantly reduce operating costs and CO₂ emissions, please feel free to contact us via the inquiry form on the Watasumi website or at contact@watasumi.com .
